WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN T700 AND T800 CARBON MAST LAYUPS?

Posted at

T700 and T800 are types of carbon fiber filament used in Loftsails’ carbon mast construction.

In short, T800 carbon is stronger and lighter and 11% stronger than T700 in terms of tensile strength  – the load a mast is under when elongated/flexing.

It also delivers a swifter return response reaction.

T800 is also slightly stronger than T700 in terms of compressive strength too.

T700 is excellent for working with in terms of either filament winding or the superior pre-preg (fiber pre-impregnated with resin) processes that Loftsails use, which ensure consistent quality of resin impregnation and fiber orientation to allow a mast to react as it is intended to when the mandrel it is shaped on is specified by a sail designer.

T800 fiber absorbs resin differently which make it superior in terms of weight reduction, reactivity and outright strength.

Loftsails use the T800 method – including added external protection against impact and camber wear in the:

An in fact both T700 and T800 fibers are used in the T800-model masts for the ‘best of both worlds’.

Loftsails use T700 only with added protective basalt layer in all other mast models – including the Expert 100% RDM and RacePro 100% SDM models.
