DELPHINE COUSIN, PWA WORLD SLALOM CHAMPION 2014

Posted at

2014 PWA World Cup racing season was a challenge for Delphine, first because pressure was on her to defend her 2013 World title; and second because she changed sponsors and was riding totally new equipment. Her season started perfectly with an event win in Turkmenistan. Then she was strongly challenged in Turkey by Sarah and Lena, which put again more pressure for the final event in Noumea- no discard possible for the World Slalom standings. Delphine dominated the Noumea event, leaving no room for surprise, taking the event win, and the PWA 2014 overall Slalom title.

1. What is your first impression after your second World title?

I am just super happy to win the tittle this year! Last year it was a great surprise, but for 2014 it was clearly my goal to be world Champion, and it’s just amazing to reach this goal !

2. Very nice pictures of the Nouméa event, many of the action from the racing, would you please describe the event spot and conditions?

We had never made 14 races during an event and it’s always better to have à lot races to have a fair result ! The spot is just perfect for slalom! It’s not an easy spot because it’s very choppy and the wind is a little bit gusty- but I like that !

3. What sails did you use during event?

I used my Racing Blade 6,3 2014 for all races at the Noumea event. It was the perfect sail for an irregular wind between 18 to 30 knots.

4. It seems that your speed improved after Alacati, can you elaborate about what may have changed for the better?

I didn’t change anything ! Alacati is really flat watger and it’s easy to be fast for everybody. I have been training in more technical conditions, I think that´s the reason why I was faster than others girls in Noumea.

5. What is your program for this winter?

Now I don’t know exactly but I probably should go to St Barth for 2 month in January and February to prépare the next season.
