Q- Please describe your 2008 racing season... what were the highlights, and what were the low points?
Valerie- “2008 has been full regarding satisfaction, although somewhat less at the Costa Brava event where I lost the world slalom title (due to premature starts).
Regarding my equipment, I feel very comfortable, and now I know my gear very well.

The low point- racing against Karin Jaggi is not easy in hard conditions where she feels more confident than me, often going ahead of me on the first leg, so I have to negotiate well my jibes to not give opportunities to the other girls.
My good point is my speed, and my technique with my comfortable equipment:

The sail sizes I used most this year were Loft Blades 5.1, 5.6, 6.2, 6.8.
L’année 2008 a été une année remplie de satisfaction, mis a part ma contre performence a costa brava qui m’a fait echouer le titre en slalom. Point de vue equipement je n’ai rien a dire je me sens bien et le connais tres bien, le point faible par rapport à Karin Jaggi serait dans des conditions chantiers ou elle est plus a l’aise ,étant souvent premiere sur le premier bord , il faut que je gere mes jibes pour pas laisser d’espace aux autres concurrentes. Mon atout est la vitesse et de naviguer avec du materiel facile et confort. Mes voiles les plus utilisées ont été 5.1,5.6, 6.2, 6.8.”

Q- In which conditions are you most confident? In which conditions are you least confident? Why?
Valerie- “I like the mid wind conditions between 15/20 knots with flat or choppy water. Generally I plane very early (like at the Turkey event).

I am less confident in strong winds even with my build!!!
I prefer the mid winds. I suppose it is due to my shoulder, which was on operated many times and gives me fear that I might have to stop windsurfing should another accident happen… it is on the speed run when the angle is very wide that I worry. I work on this point in my training to fix this problem.

J’aime les conditions de vent moyen entre 15 et 20 noeuds sur mer plate ou agités, j’ai un depart au planning tres rapide (condition Turquie par exemple) Je suis moins confiante dans le vent fort et oui malgres mon gabarit je prefere le medium , je pense que cela est du a mon epaule qui a été opere a plusieurs reprises et peur de faire une chute fatale qui pourrait m’emmener a arreter la planche (surtout en vitesse quand les bords sont tres abbatus , j’ai une retenue que n’a pas Karin Jaggi) mais je vais travailler pour regler se probleme.

Q- How do you stay fit over the winter?
Valerie- “I ride my mountain bike all year long and I work on keeping a good diet… well I do go to excess sometimes- hey we only live once!

Ma forme je la dois à ma pratique du vtt tout au long de l’année , et une hygiene de vie (qles exces quand meme on vie qu’une fois).”

Q-Who are the upcomming new female faces racing in the PWA?
Valerie- “This year some news girls join us, most of them coming from the RSX class. I hope they re will be here in 09 to make our races more interesting and to have full heats more often.

Cette année des nouvelles tetes etaient présente sur les courses , des filles de la RSX . J’espere qu’elles pourront suivre les epreuves 2009 pour la concurrence et d’etablir au moins deux poules pour les hits.”

Q-What are your plans for 2009?
Valerie- “I will go for a full racing year, and I plan to sail in top-level competitions as long as possible. My goals are the world titles- both PWA and speed ISA.
I am very exited to receive my new 09 Loft Blades, to prepare well and train- to be again at the top for next years racing season.

Je repars pour une année et espere naviguer en compet le plus longtemps possible
Mes objectifs seront le titre slalom PWA et le titre de vitesse J’ai hate de recevoir la nouvelle game loftsails pour me preparer correctement pour la nouvelle saison.”
