"Being in the water is natural, although knowing that when you enter, you have just become part of the ocean food chain… can be a little unnerving! Recently, as early as June 08, we have been having more and more great white encounters in the waters around Oahu. This little known fact does not bring comfort and solace to one who may look like breakfast! For the most part I am quite comfortable in the water, although there was one occasion that left my nerves a bit raw... We had gone out to do a shoot, the weather was gray and a little overcast.. We were the only ones on the water at the time. After about half an hour or so of swimming around and really no great images to speak of, the hair on the back went vertical and I had a rather uncomfortable tingling sensation shoot down my spine… my "spider" sense had gone into overdrive. This is the one occasion in the years of shooting that I decided to swim in early. Although nothing actually happened, there are times when your sixth sense starts to fire, and ignoring it would probably not be in your best interest!"
