Monofilm and Xply laminates are ideal as sail materials; they have very limited stretch and no water absorption. The downside (aside from UV sensitivity) is that stitching and monofilm/Xplys do not go well together unless close attention is paid to construction details. Sewing perforates monofilm and laminates, so dacron scrim adhesive tapes must be placed where they are stitched otherwise integrity is compromised.
Many sail brands build monofilm sails without scrim tapes under all stitching... such un-rienforced building techniques appear when non-scrim patches are placed on both sail sides and scrim seam reinforcements underneath are omitted. Such low quality constructions can be found on tack patches and foot 2plys from many leading brands.
The Loft takes the time and expense to apply scrim tapes and scrim adhesive reinforcements under all seams, patches, and stitching.
The Loft builds with integrity, adding real value to our designs.
