The Loft | The Loft team Hawaii
You find many new faces on The Loft International team, among them Matthias Jansen & Francis Brewer from Oahu, Hawaii.
Matthias was born and raised in Germany where he started windsurfing on the cold North Sea at the age of 13. During high school and college he windsurfed in places all over Europe. It was Matthias’ first stay on Oahu in 2001 when Hawaii’s waves made a big impact on his future goals. After graduating with a Master’s degree in Molecular Cell Biology back home in Germany he convinced his supervisors that Honolulu would be the best place for his PhD studies- resulting in his permanent relocation to Oahu in 2004.
Wind and waves dictate his daily schedule in the laboratory! Every time a swell hits Oahu’s south shore, Matthias launchs aerials at his favorite spot- Toes.

Francis, originally from South Africa, lives on Oahu for over 15 years now. By mornings he is a chiropractor; adjusting dislocated bones and joints of his patients.
Francis is both a passionate windsurfer and water photographer, who likes to catch waves with his camera as much as with his windsurf equipment. Always being interested in photography he quickly realized the tremendous potential of unique perspectives and angles when shooting from the water.
Nowadays, if wind and waves bump up on Oahu’s south shore, Francis goes for two sessions: first, hunting his windsurfing buddies in action with his camera (wrapped in a special customized water housing) and later on with his Loft Lip Wave. |
