Morocco was amazing! Almost the whole Belgian windsurf community was gathered in one hotel. It was really fun! We were like one big family: every evening we went in town together for dining. Very nice! We had some bad luck with the wind. Monday we went to Moulay, a little town half an hour from Essaouira. We took a taxi with 7 people which was normally only for 5 , with all the gear on the roof! There Jelle and I had some nice surfing with Francisco Goya in light wind conditions. We had to wait till Wednesday for some wind. Again the organisation decided to replace the competition to Moulay, where more wind was predicted. And there was more wind! Good for a 5.2 and the first single elimination of the event. The first heat was not one of my best. I ended second, but it was good enough to go the next round. The following heat I had to sail against Tom Scheirlinck, a famous Belgian surfer and Jelle Caers, my team mate.

Jelle and I both had given everything we had and Tom didn't sail at his best, so Jelle and I went to the final! Very happy we were! And now it was time for the final. It was a real freestyle battle, because all the wavers had big disadvantage in these light wind conditions; Kenny Janssen (another surf mate) & Steven Van Broeckhoven; Belgiums best freestyle windsurfer. Jelle and I had to compete against eachother! None of us sailed at their best in the final. I think it was because everyone was very nervous. So we went with mixed feelings back to the hotel. The results had not been announced yet.
The next days of the week we spent time surfing the little waves with the big longboards, because there was no wind. Until Friday evening. The last evening of the event and the last party too. Finally we would be told the results. First the men: 3, Kenny. 2, Roeland, so me! And first place was for Steven. Bad luck for Jelle. He took the 4th place, because he did not find his way in the final. So now we also know the results of grommets: 3, Jelle; 2, Kenny and first place for me! WOW! I received a nice handmade silver windsurf set! Afterwards we had a nice party with lots of fun! And so ended a nice week of surfing in Morocco.
